## Synopsis

The Discounters (2021-2024) is a German mockumentary workplace comedy created by Christian Ulmen for Prime Video. Its ensemble of young supermarket employees is led by the domineering branch manager Thorsten (Marc Hosemann), while Titus (Bruno Alexander), Peter (Ludger Bökelmann), Pina (Klara Lange) and Jonas (Merlin Sandmeyer) cope with a relentless run of store crises. The engine of the show is the gap between grand ambition and petty reality: each episode spans store opening to closing time, and the staff face thefts, a mouse plague and furious customers while struggling to keep their composure. Confessional interview segments let the employees comment on the chaos directly to the camera, which deepens the awkwardness. Running four seasons of ten episodes each, it plays as a series of self-contained shifts with a continuing cast rather than one plotted story. The register is cringe-prone, deadpan and affectionate, with a rueful warmth under the humiliation. Fans of The Office, Parks and Recreation and Stromberg will find resonance in its blend of mockumentary observation and retail misery.
