## Synopsis

Ace Troops (2021-2022) is a Chinese military drama series created for Jiangsu Television and iQiyi, a single-season run of forty 45-minute episodes. Johnny Huang plays Gao Liang and Xiao Zhan plays Gu Yiye, two young soldiers whose friendship and rivalry drive the story as they push through punishing military training to earn the title of the troop's aces. Zhong Chuxi, Li Youbin and Nikita Mao Linlin fill out the principal ensemble, with Fu Chengpeng, Sun Xun and Hou Meng Sha among the supporting officers and comrades who test and shape them. Rather than a case-of-the-week format, the series follows one continuing arc spanning nearly forty years of barracks life, drills and hard-won promotions. Romantic tangles run alongside the rivalry, adding a love triangle to the camaraderie. The tone is earnest and sincere, with a hopeful, determined register that prizes perseverance and loyalty. Fans of Basic Military Training and Wolf Warrior will find resonance in its portrait of soldier brotherhood and the grinding path to becoming the best.
