## What critics say

Widely regarded as one of the greatest television dramas, praised for its writing, lead performance, and steady escalation of moral decline.

## Synopsis

Breaking Bad follows Walter White, a mild-mannered high school chemistry teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who is diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer and turns to manufacturing methamphetamine with a former student, Jesse Pinkman, to secure his family's financial future. What begins as a desperate, practical gamble slowly becomes a corrosive transformation as Walter's pride, ambition and hunger for control pull him deeper into the drug trade and the violence that follows it. The series is tense and darkly comic in its early episodes, then grows steadily bleaker, with a mounting sense of dread about what each choice will cost the people around him. Its emotional core is the erosion of a moral self, explored through strained family life, loyalty, fear and the rationalizations people construct to justify their worst acts. Patient, meticulously crafted storytelling, bold visual compositions and a magnetic lead performance give it the feel of a slow-burning tragedy. Viewers come away unsettled, gripped and reflective about how ordinary people can become monsters.
