## Synopsis

Devil May Cry (2007) is a Japanese anime action series created by Hideki Kamiya for WOWOW Prime. Its protagonist is Dante, a half-demon, half-human hunter who takes on demons with a sword and pistols, and the series is built around his brash confidence and his divided heritage. Patty Lowell, voiced by Misato Fukuen, and Lady, voiced by Fumiko Orikasa, are among the principal characters, while Trish, voiced by Atsuko Tanaka, and Morisson, voiced by Akio Otsuka, round out the cast. Its engine is simple and kinetic: each episode pits Dante against a new supernatural threat, with fights staged as fast, gory set pieces and gunplay driving the action forward. The series runs as a single twelve-episode season of twenty-four-minute episodes, a compact run with a continuing thread of demonic conflict. It has an adult edge, with gore and dark imagery, and its tone is cocky, gritty and high-octane. Set in a contemporary world threatened by hell's forces, it draws on the stylised swordplay and supernatural horror of the game franchise. Fans of Castlevania and Blade will find resonance in its gothic action and half-demon hero, and fans of Blood+ will recognise its anime-styled monster hunting.
