## Synopsis

Sherwood (2022-2024) is a British crime drama series created for BBC One, a two-season run of twelve hour-long episodes. Lesley Manville plays Julie Jackson and David Morrissey plays DCS Ian St Clair, with Adeel Akhtar as Andy Fisher and Robert Glenister as DI Kevin Salisbury among the principal cast. The engine is a murder investigation tangled in old grudges and fresh rivalries within a fractured Nottinghamshire mining community, where each hour peels back another layer of family loyalty and vengeance. The story unfolds in a present-day post-industrial English town, where scattered grievances between local families spiral into violence and the police struggle to separate revenge from justice. The tone is bleak and tense, with a heavy atmosphere of distrust and simmering anger, and the drama leans on tight character work and slow reveals. Fans of Happy Valley, Broadchurch and Peaky Blinders will find resonance in its grounded British working class setting, its morally compromised characters and its serialized crime mystery built around a close knit community. The show is a continuing story across both seasons rather than a case of the week, and it rewards close attention to every scene and every relationship.
