## Synopsis

Murderville (2022) is an American improvised crime comedy series created by Krister Johnson for Netflix. Will Arnett plays eccentric detective Terry Seattle, who investigates a run of murders alongside a different celebrity guest star each episode, and the guests are largely clueless about police work. Haneefah Wood appears as Chief Rhonda Jenkins-Seattle, the department boss who must tolerate his unorthodox methods, and Lilan Bowden plays medical examiner Amber Kang, while Philip Smithey rounds out the squad as Detective Darren Phillips. The engine of each half-hour episode is the collision between a formal murder case and the improvised stumbling of a guest who has no idea what they are doing, so the mysteries are a backdrop for loose, off-script comic riffing. The show runs for a single season of six episodes, each about thirty-four minutes long, and it plays as a self-aware parody of procedural mysteries rather than a suspense thriller. The tone is irreverent, deadpan and breezy, with scene partners reacting spontaneously to one another. Fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Psych and Impractical Jokers will find a similar mix of playful detective work and comic chaos, and the format suits viewers who enjoy celebrity cameos and improvisation.
