## Synopsis

Hotel Portofino (2022-present) is a British period drama and mystery series created by Adam Wimpenny and produced by Eagle Eye Drama for BritBox and U&Drama. Set in 1920s Italian Riviera, it follows British matriarch Bella Ainsworth (Natascha McElhone), who runs a luxurious seaside hotel for wealthy travellers while juggling family strains and business pressures. Her husband Cecil Ainsworth (Mark Umbers) and son Lucian Ainsworth (Oliver Dench) add domestic friction, while Count Carlo Albani (Daniele Pecci) and Anna Chancellor's Lady Latchmere bring aristocratic rivalry to the terrace and dining room. Each season builds a layered mystery around the guests, with secrets surfacing as the rise of Fascism tightens its grip on the coast. The engine is Bella's struggle to protect her hotel, her family and her standing in a society where class and gender limit every move. Shape is a continuing three-season story across eighteen episodes, mixing whodunit tension with lush costume design and sun-drenched seaside imagery. Tone is elegant and tense, with a current of unease beneath the glamour. Fans of Downton Abbey, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Babylon Berlin will find resonance here.
