## Synopsis

Señorita 89 (2022-2024) is a Mexican-American period drama series created by Lucía Puenzo for Pantaya, StarzPlay and Universal Premiere. Set in the dark glamour of 1980s Mexico, it follows contestants training for the country's Miss Mexico pageant, where the stakes go beyond winning to simply surviving the road to the final contest. Concepción López Montoya (Ilse Salas) anchors the story, with Elena Montes de Oca (Ximena Romo), Dolores Acevedo (Bárbara López), Isabel Ross (Natasha Dupeyrón) and Jocelyn Cruz Reynosa (Leidi Gutiérrez) forming a tense circle of rivals and allies. The engine is a grueling preparation regime of rehearsals, rigid grooming, and backroom maneuvering, where each contestant must navigate ambition and hidden danger. The show runs for two seasons across sixteen episodes of roughly fifty minutes each, told as one continuing story. Its tone blends glossy visual pleasure with a creeping sense of menace, and its themes turn on female ambition, class, and the price of spectacle. Fans of The Crown, The Good Wife and Ugly Betty will find resonance in its period polish and its women navigating powerful institutions.
