## Synopsis

Adventures of Superman (1952-1958) is an American syndicated television adaptation of the DC Comics hero, created by Whitney Ellsworth and Robert Maxwell and produced for first-run syndication. George Reeves plays Superman, the Kryptonian who hides as Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent, and he works beside Lois Lane, played by Phyllis Coates and later Noel Neill, and cub photographer Jimmy Olsen, played by Jack Larson, under gruff editor Perry White, played by John Hamilton. The engine is simple and repeatable: a crime, a scheme or a menace turns up in the city, and the hero uses his powers to outwit gangsters, saboteurs and bumbling officials, often with a wink to the audience. Each episode is self-contained, a case-of-the-week format that runs across six seasons and 104 half-hour episodes. Shot in black and white on modest sets, the show carries the cheap, earnest charm of early postwar television, with a wholesome, sunny tone built on truth, justice and national virtue. Fans of Batman (1966), Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and The Lone Ranger will find the same family-friendly heroism and episodic adventure. It remains a gentle, nostalgic watch for families and classic television lovers.
