## Synopsis

The Chelsea Detective (2022-present) is a British crime series created by Peter Fincham for Acorn TV. Detective Inspector Max Arnold (Adrian Scarborough) lives on a battered houseboat at the end of Cheyne Walk in London after separating from his art dealer wife Astrid (Anamaria Marinca). The son of a local bookshop owner, Max works well outside the affluent circles whose crimes he investigates. Alongside him, Detective Sergeant Priya Shamsie (Sonita Henry) helps untangle each case, which unfolds through a steady chain of interviews, with one witness or suspect leading to the next until the right person is finally identified. Across four seasons and sixteen episodes of roughly ninety minutes each, the show stays a quiet, measured police procedural rather than a showy thriller. Its mood is wistful and contemplative, grounded in the tension between Max's modest private life and the polished world of the wealthy suspects he questions. Fans of Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse and Shetland will find a similar pull toward British detective work that favors character and atmosphere over spectacle.
