## Synopsis

Fleishman Is in Trouble (2022) is an American limited series created by Taffy Brodesser-Akner for Hulu. Jesse Eisenberg plays Toby Fleishman, a recently separated New York doctor in his forties who throws himself into app-based dating with a freedom he never had in his youth. Claire Danes plays his ex-wife Rachel, whose sudden disappearance leaves him alone with their two children and no word on whether she will return. Lizzy Caplan and Adam Brody round out the principal cast as friends who shape Toby's new life. The engine of the eight-episode story is Toby's wobbling sense of self, as each swipe, date and parental duty pulls him in a different direction. The show is a single continuing narrative, unfolding through shifting viewpoints that reexamine the marriage and the people around it. Its setting is contemporary Manhattan, a world of upscale apartments, hotel bars and crowded dating apps. The tone is wry, frank and bittersweet, with sharp observation of privilege, resentment and sexual reawakening. Fans of Divorce, Girls and The Marriage Story will find resonance in its blend of comedy and marital dissection. The mature content is explicit about sex and drug use.
