## Synopsis

Under the Queen's Umbrella (2022) is a South Korean historical drama series created by Kim Hyung-sik and Park Ba-ra for tvN. A single sixteen-episode season, it follows Queen Im Hwa-ryeong (Kim Hye-soo), a spirited queen who tries to rein in her unruly sons and steer one of them onto the throne of Joseon. Her efforts pit her against rival consorts and royal relatives who scheme to seize the crown, and the palace becomes a battlefield of whispered alliances, passive-aggressive threats and quiet manipulations. Kim Hae-sook and Choi Won-young appear among the principal royals, and the series traces how each prince and consort maneuvers within the rigid hierarchy of the court. Its episodes are built from audience-chamber confrontations, family dinners turned into power plays and tense glances across the palace grounds. The tone blends palace satire with sharp dark comedy and a mounting sense of pressure, with the period costumes and courtyard framing giving the story a formal, measured atmosphere. Fans of The Crown, Kingdom and Mr. Sunshine will find resonance in its royal court intrigue, succession rivalry and period-piece politics.
