## Synopsis

The Calling (2022) is an American crime drama series created by David E. Kelley for Peacock, adapted from a novel. Jeff Wilbusch plays NYPD Detective Avraham Avraham, a deeply spiritual investigator whose belief in mankind is both his greatest asset and his vulnerability. Juliana Canfield, Karen Robinson and Michael Mosley appear as principal cast members alongside him in a present-day New York setting. The engine of the show is a seemingly routine case that spirals into something far more unsettling, forcing Avraham to examine whether his faith and principles can survive the evidence in front of him. Each of the eight episodes of this single season builds the investigation patiently, weighing religious conviction against the hard realities of police work and the moral compromises it demands. The tone is contemplative and tense, with a brooding, morally weighted atmosphere rather than flashy spectacle. Its mix of procedural detail and spiritual inquiry will appeal to viewers who enjoy character driven mysteries in the vein of Broadchurch and The Night Of, with the moral ambiguity of Twin Peaks. The series was canceled after one season, leaving its central investigation open.
