## Synopsis

The 8 Show (2024) is a South Korean survival thriller miniseries created by Han Jae-rim for Netflix. Ryu Jun-yeol plays Jin-soo, a contestant on the 3rd floor, alongside Chun Woo-hee as Se-ra on the 8th floor and Park Jeong-min as Phillip on the 7th floor, all eight strangers stranded in a mysterious eight-story building. Their engine is a tempting game in which they earn money as time passes, while each one weighs the cash against the danger of staying inside. Each episode turns on the grim arithmetic of debt, hunger and fear, and the contestants' choices shape the rules of the contest as much as the rules shape them. Across eight episodes of about fifty minutes each, the series is a single continuing story with no case-of-the-week structure, a compact limited series that moves quickly. Set in a contemporary Korean city, the story is grounded in a claustrophobic, brutal atmosphere of suspense, paranoia and desperation, with a sharp satirical edge toward class and capitalism. Fans of Squid Game, The Platform and Alice in Borderland will find resonance in its blend of game mechanics, social critique and tense confinement.
