## Synopsis

Mask Girl (2023) is a South Korean limited series created by Kim Yong-hoon for Netflix, a dark crime thriller that blends mystery, drama and a sharp streak of comedy. Go Hyun-jung, Nana and Lee Han-byeol play the same office worker, Kim Mo-mi, a woman insecure about her looks who becomes a masked internet personality by night. Ahn Jae-hong plays Ju Oh-nam and Yeom Hye-ran plays Kim Kyung-ja, principal figures whose lives tangle with hers as one chain of ill-fated events pulls her deeper into danger. The engine of the story is a double life: a woman who wants to be seen on her own terms, hiding behind a mask that starts to cost her more than she can afford. Each of its seven long episodes tightens the knot with secrets, suspicion and escalating violence rather than a case of the week. The show is a compact, one-season miniseries that runs seven episodes of roughly an hour each. Set in contemporary South Korea, it moves through the pressures of office life and the anonymous intimacy of livestreaming. Its tone is tense, unsettling and claustrophobic, with moments of dark humor and an undercurrent of melancholy about appearance and self-worth. Fans of Save Me and Pretty Little Liars will find resonance in its obsessive heroine and its tangled, twisty mystery.
