## Synopsis

This England (2022) is a British television political drama miniseries created by Kieron Quirke and Michael Winterbottom for Sky Atlantic. Kenneth Branagh plays Prime Minister Boris Johnson, a larger-than-life figure whose ambitions collide with the chaos of his first months in office, while Ophelia Lovibond plays Carrie Symonds and Simon Paisley Day plays Dominic Cummings, the strategist whose calculating presence shapes Downing Street. Across six episodes of roughly fifty-three minutes each, the series dramatizes the pressures of governing through the Covid-19 pandemic and the fraught Brexit negotiations, with each episode built from corridor conversations, tense meetings, and private moments that expose the cost of ambition. Matt Hancock (Andrew Buchan) and a crowded ensemble of advisers circle the central figure as events accelerate. The tone blends sardonic satire with personal intimacy, portraying power as both absurd and deeply human. Set in recent 2019 and 2020 Westminster and Downing Street, it is a dramatized, based-on-true-events portrait of a government in crisis. Fans of The Thick of It, The West Wing and Chernobyl will find resonance in its blend of insider political maneuvering, real events and sharp characterization.
