## Synopsis

Murdoch Mysteries (2008-present) is a Canadian period police procedural series created by Maureen Jennings for CBC Television and Citytv. Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) investigates murders in late nineteenth century Toronto, using forensic techniques that were cutting edge for his time. He works alongside coroner Dr. Julia Ogden (Helene Joy), who fights for professional recognition in a male-dominated medical world, and with Chief Constable Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) and eccentric Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris). Each episode is largely self-contained, built around a fresh victim, a cast of suspects from every social class, and a puzzle the detectives must solve through careful observation and new science. The show has run for twenty seasons, with a steady rhythm of case of the week mysteries that rarely demand prior viewing. Its tone is warm, witty and cozy, with a strong sense of period atmosphere, from gaslit streets to horse drawn carriages. Fans of Sherlock Holmes, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and Father Brown will find a similar blend of Victorian charm, clever deduction and gentle humour.
