## Synopsis

Shadow Detective (2022-2023) is a South Korean crime drama series created by Im Chang-se for Disney+. Lee Sung-min plays Kim Taek-rok, a veteran detective about to retire, whose quiet final years on the force are upended by a mysterious man who follows his path while hiding his identity. Gyeong Su-jin plays Lee Seong-a, a principal figure caught in the widening web, and Jin Goo and Lee Hak-ju appear among the principal players drawn into the investigations. The engine of the show is a long, escalating battle of wits in which blackmail, pressure and carefully withheld information pass back and forth between the detective and his unseen opponent, and each episode peels back another layer of a buried past. Told as one continuing story across two seasons and sixteen episodes, it unfolds as a serialized psychological thriller rather than a case-of-the-week format. Set in contemporary South Korea, its police offices, interrogation rooms and rain-dark city streets carry a tense, paranoid and emotionally weary register. Its tone is sober and intense, with a quiet melancholy running under the procedural detail. Fans of Voice, Breaking Bad and The Wire will find resonance in its patient cat and mouse structure and its morally uneasy police world.
