## Synopsis

Heathcliff (1980-1981) is an American animated comedy series created by Brad Anderson, Joe Ruby, Ken Spears and George Gately for ABC. Produced by Ruby-Spears Productions, it adapts the long-running Heathcliff comic strip, following the scheming orange cat Heathcliff, voiced by Mel Blanc, as he schemes his way through daily life and mischief with his neighborhood companions. Episodes are built around light gags, slapstick mishaps and a running rivalry with the dogs and humans around him, giving each half hour a breezy, cheerful rhythm. June Foray, Henry Corden, Paul Winchell and Frank Welker voice the supporting cast, adding the bickering characters and cartoon voices that give the show its warmth. The series spans two seasons and ninety-one episodes, and its tone is gentle, playful and undemanding. Fans of Garfield and Friends, The Flintstones and The Real Ghostbusters will find resonance in its Saturday morning comic energy, cat-and-dog comedy and nostalgic early eighties animation style throughout.
