## Synopsis

Why Didn't They Ask Evans? (2022) is a British period mystery miniseries created by Hugh Laurie and produced by Mammoth Screen, adapted from the Agatha Christie novel and broadcast on BritBox. Across three one-hour episodes, vicar's son Bobby Jones (Will Poulter) and socialite Lady Frankie Derwent (Lucy Boynton) are drawn into a murder after a dying man utters enigmatic last words. Their engine is simple and appealing: they pursue the meaning of that phrase through country houses, village gossip and the secrets of local gentry, while Rev Richard Jones (Alistair Petrie) and Dr Alwyn Thomas (Conleth Hill) add pressure and wry counterpoints. Set in a rural Welsh community in the interwar years, the series balances witty banter with a tense puzzle that rewards attentive viewers. Its tone is brisk, playful and traditional, with a cosy English-crime sensibility. Fans of Agatha Christie's Poirot and Miss Marple will find resonance in its amateur sleuthing and classic whodunit rhythms.
