## Synopsis

Lawmen: Bass Reeves (2023) is a United States limited series created by Chad Feehan for Paramount+. Set in the post-Reconstruction American frontier, it follows the legendary federal peace officer Bass Reeves, played by David Oyelowo, who patrols the lawless Indian Territory and brings in outlaws without ever being wounded. Reeves is a former enslaved man who has earned a badge in a world that resists him, and his engine is the tension between his personal code and the dangers of every arrest. Each episode carries a case forward while the wider story tracks his family, including his wife Jennie, played by Lauren E. Banks, and his daughter Sally, played by Demi Singleton, along with his partner Billy Crow, played by Forrest Goodluck. Dennis Quaid and Donald Sutherland add pressure from the institutions of frontier law. Across eight episodes the miniseries unfolds as a serialized western with a gritty, grounded register, blending violence with reflection on race, freedom and legacy. Fans of Deadwood, Godless and Hell on Wheels will find resonance in its harsh landscapes and morally complicated frontier justice.
