## Synopsis

1923 (2022-2025) is a Paramount+ prestige western drama series created by Taylor Sheridan, a prequel to Yellowstone. Set in early twentieth century Montana, it follows the ranching Dutton family as a new generation confronts the mountain west's mounting hardships. Helen Mirren plays Cara Dutton and Harrison Ford plays Jacob Dutton, the patriarch and matriarch whose hold on the land is tested, while Brandon Sklenar plays Spencer Dutton, a figure caught in the violence of the era, and Jerome Flynn plays Banner Creighton, an antagonist pressing against the family's claims. The engine of the series is a fight to keep cattle land and family alive while pandemics sweep through, historic drought dries out the range, and Prohibition's end and the Great Depression pile on further pressure. Each season is a continuing serialized story over two seasons and fifteen episodes, built around grim escalating conflicts, range wars and hard-won survival. Narrated by Elsa Dutton (Isabel May), the show carries a melancholic, brutal, sweeping register with striking landscapes and a faithfully recreated period texture. Fans of Yellowstone, Deadwood and Hell on Wheels will find resonance in its hard frontier power struggles and dynastic loyalty.
