## Synopsis

The Ghost & Mrs. Muir (1968-1970) is a American supernatural sitcom created by Jean Holloway for ABC and NBC. Based on the 1947 film of the same name, it follows widowed writer Carolyn Muir (Hope Lange) who moves with her two children into a seaside house that is already occupied by Daniel Gregg (Edward Mulhare), a deceased sea captain who wreaks havoc on anyone who lives there. The engine of each episode is the friction between the living household and the ghost, as Carolyn tries to settle her family in while managing a stubborn spirit who resists every attempt to make him leave. Housekeeper Martha Grant (Reta Shaw) and the captain's ghostly antics add comic momentum, and a gentle romance grows between Carolyn and Daniel as the household adapts. The series runs for two seasons and fifty episodes, built from self-contained half-hour stories rather than one continuing arc. Its tone is warm, witty and cozy, with a light touch of wistfulness, and its setting is a New England coastal home in the late 1960s. Fans of Bewitched, Topper and Ghosts will find resonance in its gentle supernatural comedy and domestic romance.
