## Synopsis

NieR:Automata Ver1.1a (2023-2023) is a Japanese animated science fiction series created for television and broadcast on Gunma TV, TOKYO MX, BS11 and Tochigi TV, adapted from the video game of the same name and produced by A-1 Pictures. Set in the distant future of 5012, the story follows android soldiers from the moon who return to a devastated Earth as part of the YoRHa unit. Android operative 2B (voiced by Yui Ishikawa) and analyst 9S (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) work together on missions against machine lifeforms that multiply without end, while they encounter mysterious phenomena that unsettle their sense of purpose. The engine of the series is a stalemated war in which every mission reveals more about what the androids are fighting for and whether their existence has meaning. The single season of twenty-four episodes is one continuing story rather than a case of the week. Its tone is somber, reflective and melancholic, with a thoughtful focus on identity and endless conflict set against a ruined, wasteland Earth. Viewers who enjoy Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan and other philosophical anime about machines and war will find resonance here.
