## Synopsis

In De Gloria (2000-2001) is a Belgian Flemish sketch comedy series created by Jan Eelen and produced by Woestijnvis for VRT Canvas. Running two seasons of ten half-hour episodes each, it is a satirical sketch show built from fictitious television reports staged as if they were real. Its engine is the mock human interest feature: the cast, including Wim Opbrouck, Sien Eggers, Frank Focketyn, Kris Focketyn as Kris Vermaelen, An Miller and Tom van Dyck, plays ordinary people and presenters whose earnest documentary-style segments drift into absurdity. Each episode is a run of self-contained sketches rather than a continuing plot, so viewers can dip in at any point. The tone is dry, deadpan and knowing, with the straight-faced reporting style doing most of the joke work. The satire turns on the gap between the sincerity of reality and human interest formats and the performers' exaggerated, unguarded sincerity. Fans of The Day Today, Brass Eye and The Office will find a kindred mix of mock-documentary realism and sharp media parody, in a distinctly Flemish voice that rewards viewers attentive to television conventions.
