## Synopsis

The Big Door Prize (2023-2024) is an American science fiction comedy series created by David West Read for Apple TV, adapted from a novel. Chris O'Dowd plays Dusty, a small town resident whose life is turned upside down when a mysterious machine appears promising to reveal everyone's true potential. Gabrielle Dennis plays Cass, Ally Maki plays Hana, and Josh Segarra plays Giorgio, all residents reconsidering their jobs, relationships and long-held beliefs as the card-printing device spreads its influence through the community. Across two seasons and twenty episodes, the engine of the show is the tension between wanting a better future and the uncertainty of trusting a prophecy that may be misread. Each episode mixes small domestic confessions, workplace friction and quiet local scandal with a growing sense of mystery about what the machine actually does. The show is set in a contemporary American small town and has a gentle, wry, earnest register, balancing warmth and absurdity with a melancholic undercurrent about regret and reinvention. Fans of Lost, Twin Peaks and The Leftovers will find resonance in its ensemble, its speculative premise and its blend of humor with existential unease. The series was canceled after its second season, leaving its central mystery open.
