## Synopsis

The Penguin (2024) is an American HBO crime drama miniseries created by Lauren LeFranc and set in a storm-battered Gotham City. Colin Farrell plays Oswald "Oz" Cobb, the scarred underworld figure known as the Penguin, who moves to fill the power vacuum left after crime boss Carmine Falcone's death. Cristin Milioti plays Sofia Falcone, a rival with her own claim on the city's rackets, while Deirdre O'Connell plays Oz's mother Francis, whose wellbeing drives his every move. Clancy Brown and Rhenzy Feliz add weight to the ranks of the criminal families. The engine of the story is Oz's climb through a fractured organized crime world, where every alliance is temporary and every betrayal is personal. The eight-episode run is a single continuing story rather than a case of the week, unfolding with a steady, brutal momentum. Its gritty, neon-tinged atmosphere, moody tension and sharp character study give it a tragic-tinged intensity. Fans of The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire and Peaky Blinders will find resonance in its portrait of a mob family drama built on ambition, loyalty and the cost of trying to be loved.
