## Synopsis

Vermeil in Gold (2022) is a Japanese animated fantasy comedy series produced for AT-X and adapted from a light novel, a single-season anime of twelve 24-minute episodes. The story follows Alto Goldfield (voiced by Yuya Hirose), a struggling magic student who, rather than study for graduation, summons otherworldly help and accidentally binds the legendary she-devil Vermeil (Maaya Uchida) as his familiar. Her ferocious power and sharp tongue clash with his ordinary ambitions, while classmates such as Lilia Kudelfeyt (Wakana Kuramochi) and Elena Kimberlight (Kana Hanazawa) add romantic entanglements that fuel the harem-style comedy. Each episode is built from school life, exam pressure, and magical mishaps, with the central engine being a student trying to salvage his grades while a dangerous companion keeps upending his plans. The atmosphere is breezy and light, with flashes of romance and sincere affection beneath the absurd situations. Set in a fantasy world of magic academies, it sits in the tradition of Japanese light novel harem comedies, and fans of The Familiar of Zero and Rosario + Vampire will find similar pleasures in its bond between mage and demon and its ensemble of eager admirers.
