## Synopsis

Carrusel (1989-1990) is a Mexican family comedy-drama soap series created by Abel Santacruz for Las Estrellas, adapted from the 1966 Argentine telenovela Jacinta Pichimahuida, la maestra que no se olvida. Its ensemble of second-grade pupils at the Mundial School in Mexico City is built around Maestra Ximena Fernández, played by Gabriela Rivero, a teacher who acts as a second mother to her class. Cirilo Rivera (Pedro Javier Viveros) and María Joaquina Villaseñor (Ludwika Paleta) are among the children whose friendships, rivalries and family worries drive the episodes, while Laura Quiñones (Hilda Chávez) and Valeria Ferrer (Christel Klitbo) round out the classroom. Each storyline is an everyday childhood problem that the pupils confront with joy and a lighthearted attitude, always backed by the adults who care for them. The series runs as one long telenovela-style serial of 358 episodes, so its emotional beats accumulate across the school year rather than resolving in isolated stories. The tone is sentimental and warm, with gentle comedy and earnest melodrama giving the classroom a soft, nostalgic glow. Fans of Chiquititas, Degrassi: The Next Generation and Cuidado con el Ángel will find resonance in its child-centered melodrama and comforting school-set warmth.
