## Synopsis

Heartbreak High (1994-1999) is an Australian teen drama series created by Michael Jenkins and Ben Gannon for ABC TV and Ten. Set at the fictional Hartley High School in Sydney, it follows a shifting group of students as their classroom lives, friendships, romances and family pressures collide. Nick Poulos (Alex Dimitriades) and Christina Milano (Sarah Lambert) anchor early storylines, with Rose Malouf (Katherine Halliday), Con Bordino (Salvatore Coco) and Danielle Miller (Emma Roche) carrying much of the ensemble weight across the run. Each episode is built from everyday school dramas, from crushes and cliques to teachers caught between duty and their own troubles, so the engine is the simple pull of wanting to fit in and be seen. Running six seasons and over two hundred episodes of fifty minutes each, it is a continuing serialized drama rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its 1990s Sydney suburban setting gives it a grounded, candid feel, with a tone that mixes youthful warmth, awkward humor and sharper moments of heartbreak. Fans of Degrassi: The Next Generation and Beverly Hills, 90210 will find a similar resonance in its school-based coming of age ensemble drama.
