## Synopsis

Contra viento y marea (2005) is a Mexican telenovela created by Manuel Muñoz Rico and José Simón Escalona for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Marlene Favela plays Natalia Ríos, whose romantic life is tangled with Sebastián Rulli as Sebastián Cárdenas, the son of a proud family whose rivalries and loyalties pull the lovers apart. Ernesto D'Alessio as Eduardo Cárdenas and Silvia Manríquez as Amparo Contreras de Cárdenas anchor the family side of the story, while Azela Robinson as Apolonia Rudell Zurita and Adriana Fonseca as Sandra Serrano Rudell de Balmaceda bring the rival household into the conflict. The engine is a familiar telenovela one: lovers who keep being separated by secrets, misunderstandings, class pressures and family feuds, with each episode built from confrontations, reunions and fresh reversals. Told across a single 130-episode run, the story moves with the dramatic momentum of a daily melodrama, with heightened emotion, tearful confrontations and romantic yearning carrying every scene. Fans of Rubí, Rosalinda and Pasión de Gavilanes will find resonance in its sweeping, emotionally direct storytelling and its focus on love tested by family loyalty. The series is a sincere, melodramatic romance that rewards viewers who enjoy the classic Latin American soap tradition.
