## Synopsis

Case Closed: The Culprit Hanzawa (2022) is a Japanese animated mystery parody series created as a spin off for TOKYO MX, produced by TMS Entertainment. Its single season of twelve short episodes, each running about nine minutes, follows a silhouetted suspect who arrives in the crime-infested town of Beika with murder on his mind. Makoto Hanzawa is voiced by Shouta Aoi, and the cast draws on the source franchise, with Minami Takayama as Conan Edogawa, Wakana Yamazaki as Ran Mouri, and Megumi Hayashibara as Ai Haibara, while Akira Ishida voices Saguru Hakuba. The engine is the reversal of the usual detective story: the audience watches the would-be killer plan and navigate a town full of sleuths and coincidence. Each brief episode is a self contained comic caper that keeps the mood amused and playful rather than grim. Set in a contemporary Japanese town, it sits within the tradition of shonen style detective anime and rewards viewers who enjoy cat and mouse comedy. Fans of Lupin the Third and the parent Case Closed series will find resonance in its blend of crime, humor and clever misdirection.
