## Synopsis

DI Ray (2022-2024) is a British crime drama created by Maya Sondhi for ITV1, a two-season series of ten 45-minute episodes that was later canceled. Parminder Nagra plays DI Rachita Ray, a Leicester-born detective working in Birmingham whose investigations force her to face a lifelong split between her British upbringing and her South Asian heritage. Her colleagues include DCI Kerry Henderson, played by Gemma Whelan, and DS Kwesi Edmund, played by Peter Bankolé, who sit alongside her inside a police force that does not always understand her. Each case pushes Ray against both the criminals she tracks and the prejudices she meets at work and at home, so the personal and professional threads tighten together across the run. The series moves at a measured pace with a grounded, sometimes tense register, and its emotional weight comes from Ray's private unease as much as from the crimes themselves. Fans of Happy Valley, Line of Duty and Prime Suspect will find a similar blend of British police procedure and character-driven unease, with a female lead carrying the story.
