## Synopsis

Alphonse (2023) is a French comedy-drama series created by Nicolas Bedos for Prime Video. Jean Dujardin plays Alphonse, a forty-something Parisian whose professional and marital life has come apart, and Charlotte Gainsbourg plays Margot, one of the women who draws him into a new orbit. Pierre Arditi appears as Jacques Bisson, the estranged father Alphonse barely knew and reconnects with while stumbling toward an unexpected calling. Across six roughly fifty-minute episodes, the engine is simple and mischievous: a man with nothing left to lose meets a parade of vivid, quirky women, each more exciting than the last, and each encounter pulls him into a situation that feels both perilous and transgressive. The show is a single-season limited run that plays like an adult dramedy rather than a formula sitcom, with sharp, talky scenes of Paris social life and an undercurrent of genuine warmth. Its tone is irreverent yet tender, balancing bruised midlife melancholy with bursts of absurd comedy. Viewers who enjoy the caustic Parisian bite of Call My Agent! or the intimate, confessional humor of Fleabag will find a similar kinship here. Its wit is rooted in a specific cultural milieu, a French sensibility about desire, family, and second chances, delivered with an adult frankness that may not suit every viewer.
