## Synopsis

Den-noh Coil (2007) is a Japanese animated science fiction mystery series created for NHK Educational TV and produced by Madhouse. Yuko Okonogi, a schoolgirl who moves with her family to Daikoku, a city that has become the technological center of a half-virtual world, joins her grandmother's investigation agency of children equipped with augmented reality visors and virtual tools. Their engine is a simple but unsettling question: where do the children who vanish into the mysterious other side of reality go, and who is covering it up. Each episode mixes playful neighborhood adventures, gadget-driven games and tidy school life with a slow-building sense of conspiracy about the dangerous history of the technology everyone wears. The single season of twenty-six episodes is one continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format, and it is set in a near future Japan that feels both familiar and uncanny. The tone is wistful and eerie, with a childlike curiosity that gradually darkens into quiet dread. Fans of Serial Experiments Lain, Mushishi and Digimon Adventure will find resonance in its blend of technological anxiety, childhood wonder and a hidden layer of reality beneath everyday life.
