## Synopsis

New Tricks (2004-2015) is a British comedy-drama crime series created by Nigel McCrery for BBC One. Veteran detective Gerry Standing (Dennis Waterman) leads a squad of retired police officers recruited to reopen unsolved cases for the Metropolitan Police in London. Alongside him, Sandra Pullman (Amanda Redman) brings command authority, while Jack Halford (James Bolam) and Brian Lane (Alun Armstrong) supply sharp, weathered humor. Each episode follows a single cold case, with the squad piecing together old evidence, interviewing aging witnesses and navigating bureaucratic resistance from active officers. The show runs twelve seasons across a hundred and seven episodes, mostly case-of-the-week in structure, with ongoing threads about the team's place within the force. Its tone is warm, playful and cosy, with a gentle, grounded register that balances genuine investigative tension against easy banter. Fans of Midsomer Murders, Waking the Dead and Hot Fuzz will find the same mix of british procedural rigor and affectionate comedy among older protagonists.
