## Synopsis

La Mesías (2023) is a Spanish miniseries created by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo for Movistar Plus, a seven-episode limited series with a dark, psychologically intense register. Roger Casamajor plays Enric, a man whose childhood was shaped by religious fanaticism and a mother with messianic delusions, and Macarena García plays Irene, a woman whose presence pushes him to confront that history. Lola Dueñas, Carmen Machi and Ana Rujas play Montserrat Baró across her adult, elderly and young years, while Cecilia Roth and Albert Pla fill out the family and the wider circle around the past. The engine of the story is simple and sharp: a viral video of a Christian pop group made up of sisters lands in Enric's life and forces him to reckon with what he was raised inside. Each episode peels back another layer of memory through flashbacks, moving between the present and the household where faith turned into control. The tone is unsettling, claustrophobic and emotionally raw, with a fascination for how devotion can curdle into abuse. Fans of The Leftovers and the psychological family dramas of prestige European television will find resonance here.
