## Synopsis

Get Millie Black (2024) is a British-American crime miniseries created by Marlon James for HBO, adapted from a novel. Tamara Lawrance plays Millie-Jean Black, an ex-Scotland Yard detective who returns to Kingston, Jamaica to work missing persons cases. Her investigation pulls her toward a sister who refuses rescue and a boy who seems impossible to find, while Joe Dempsie plays Luke Holborn, a figure tangled in the case, and Gershwyn Eustache Jnr plays Curtis, a local presence whose loyalties are uncertain. The engine of the series is a stubborn personal quest in which every lead threatens to expose Millie's own past and the fragile order of a city where police, criminal networks and family ties overlap. Across five episodes it unfolds as one continuous serialized case rather than a procedural of standalone incidents. Its look is gritty and humid, with a hard-edged, morally compromised tone that is bleak yet propulsive and carries the weight of diaspora and displacement. Fans of Top of the Lake, Happy Valley and Sharp Objects will find resonance in its flawed female investigator and its tense, character-driven crime storytelling.
