## Synopsis

Kummeli (1991-1995) is a Finnish national-television sketch comedy series created by Olli Keskinen, Matti Grönberg, Heikki Silvennoinen and Timo Kahilainen for Yle TV2. Built by a Tampere comedy crew who are also musicians rather than professional actors, the show runs on a stream of short skits featuring insane, exaggerated characters, with musical guests breaking up the sketches. Heikki Silvennoinen, Timo Kahilainen and Heikki Hela lead the troupe, and Olli Keskinen, known for his persona Eero Kakko, anchors many of the bits, with Tom Lindholm appearing as Hannu. Rather than a single plot, each episode is a collage of unrelated gags, though some episodes thread a running set of skits that pays off at the end. The series spans seven seasons and forty-nine episodes, and the tone is loose, irreverent and anarchic, with a deliberately homemade energy. Its humor leans on character absurdity and deadpan delivery rather than story. Fans of Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Kids in the Hall and The Fast Show will find kinship in its eccentric personas and anarchic sketch rhythm.
