## Synopsis

The Litchi Road (2025) is a Chinese historical costume drama series produced for CCTV-8 and adapted from a novel. Lei Jiayin plays Li Shande, a supervisory official deceived by colleagues and demoted, who is forced to become the Lychee Envoy and carry fresh lychees from Lingnan to Chang'an as a birthday gift for the Noble Consort. Yue Yunpeng plays Zheng Pingan, and Nashi plays A Mita, who share the hardships of the road. The engine of the series is a near-impossible overland errand: more than 5,000 li of rivers, mountains and imperial checkpoints stand between the envoy and the capital, while the fruit's freshness fades on a fixed schedule and the resources are thin. Each stretch of the journey brings new obstacles, local figures and palace politics that test the envoy's loyalty and ingenuity. Told in a single season of thirty-five episodes, the series is a steady, sincere epic set in Tang dynasty China, with a wistful tone and a theme of duty pursued against long odds. Fans of Nirvana in Fire and Empresses in the Palace will find resonance in its court-adjacent intrigue and its earnest, character-driven historical drama.
