## Synopsis

La Hora Chanante (2002-2006) is a Spanish sketch comedy series created by Joaquín Reyes and Santiago De Lucas for Comedy Central. Created and directed by Albacete comedian Joaquín Reyes, who also plays the celebrity figures in every episode, the show is built from half-hour installments of unrelated sketches. Reyes serves as the host and principal performer, with Ernesto Sevilla and Julián López appearing across all fifty-one episodes, while Carlos Areces, Pablo Chiapella, Ignatius Farray and Raúl Cimas appear in a smaller number of installments. Each episode stitches its quick bits together with a storyline featuring a celebrity, which provides a thin thread of continuity across the program. The engine is pure variety: rapid shifts of character, parody and impersonation of Spanish media figures, and a loose, irreverent energy. Its cutaway drawings were produced by artists from the satirical magazine El Jueves, giving it a distinctly Spanish satirical sensibility. Across five seasons the show runs as a cable sketch show with a playful, mischievous tone. Fans of Monty Python's Flying Circus, Mad TV and Muchachada Nui will find resonance in its irreverent sketch format and celebrity parody.
