## Synopsis

The Diplomat (2023-present) is a Netflix political drama series created by Debora Cahn. Keri Russell plays Ambassador Kate Wyler, an American diplomat posted to London, whose high-profile job is complicated by her strained marriage to Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), a political star in his own right. Around them, Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) and Eidra Park (Ali Ahn) jockey for advantage as an international crisis unfolds. The engine of the show is Kate's effort to hold a fragile diplomatic position together while every choice ripples outward into alliances and personal loyalties. Each season moves through a run of tightly plotted episodes in which many balls are kept in the air at once, and the story stays serialized across four seasons. Its rapid-fire dialogue and high-stakes conflict give it a tense, propulsive, adult register, with the private unraveling of a marriage playing against the public machinery of government. Fans of The West Wing and Scandal will find resonance in its brisk political intrigue, its sharp dialogue and its portrait of power at the highest levels of government.
