## Synopsis

The Rehearsal (2022-present) is an American alt comedy documentary series created by Nathan Fielder for HBO. Fielder plays himself, a deadpan host who builds elaborate sets and recruits a legion of actors so that ordinary people can rehearse the biggest moments of their lives before living them. The engine is simple and absurd: a participant faces a high-stakes personal situation, and Fielder constructs a simulation meant to prevent a single misstep from shattering their world, only for the replica to grow more elaborate and uncomfortable than the original. Each episode unfolds as a half-hour case study, with fake bartenders, stand-in relatives, and staged trivia nights blurring the line between documentary and fiction. The show runs across two seasons of six episodes each, a cult alt comedy that rewards close attention. Its tone is awkward, deadpan, and quietly melancholic, with humor drawn from earnest people's social errors and the discomfort of watching overplanned scenarios collapse. Fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office (US) and Borat will find resonance in its mix of mockumentary artifice and raw human vulnerability.
