## What critics say

Critics broadly acclaim the miniseries as a gripping, well-acted dramatization of Shackleton's Endurance expedition, with Kenneth Branagh's central performance and its survival-focused intensity drawing the most praise.

## Synopsis

This historical miniseries dramatizes Ernest Shackleton's ill-fated Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914 to 1916. Its ambitious voyage aboard the Endurance becomes a slow ordeal when the ship is trapped and crushed by pack ice in the Weddell Sea, stranding twenty-eight men on a drifting floe with no rescue in sight. The story moves between the claustrophobic tension of the frozen ship, the grueling march across ice, and the open-boat voyage that finally reaches South Georgia. Kenneth Branagh anchors the drama as Shackleton, a charismatic leader whose optimism, stubbornness, and devotion to his men are tested at every turn. The tone is measured and earnest, with long stretches of quiet dread punctuated by moments of raw physical danger. Expect a meditative, emotionally rich portrait of leadership, camaraderie, and the thin line between hope and despair, grounded in strikingly beautiful and punishing polar landscapes.
