## What critics say

Audiences find Gen V a darkly comic, gory spin-off of The Boys that offers a sharp college-set take on the franchise but is less novel and less likable than its parent series.

## Synopsis

Gen V (2023-2025) is an American dark superhero comedy series created by Craig Rosenberg, Evan Goldberg and Eric Kripke for Prime Video, a spin-off of The Boys. Set at Godolkin University, America's only college for superheroes, the story follows Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and a group of gifted students who bend their moral boundaries to climb the school's ranking and win a chance to join The Seven, the elite team of the corporate conglomerate Vought International. Andre Anderson (Chance Perdomo), Emma Meyer (Lizze Broadway) and Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips) are among the principal students whose rivalries, friendships and private ambitions drive each episode. The engine is ambition in an institution that treats young heroes as marketable products, and each season is built from campus competitions, parties, and dark revelations about the school. The series runs for two seasons and sixteen episodes in a continuing serialized story, with the tone shifting between crude gross-out humor, grim satire and bleak teen drama. Its atmosphere is abrasive and cynical, and it sits in a heightened, satirical version of contemporary America. Fans of The Boys, Heroes and The Umbrella Academy will find resonance in its mix of superpowers, institutional cynicism and coming of age under pressure.
