## Synopsis

Binnelanders (2005-present) is a South African Afrikaans soap opera created by Human Stark and Elsje Stark for M-Net and kykNET. Set in and around the fictional private hospital Binneland Kliniek in Pretoria, the series follows a large ensemble of doctors, nurses and patients whose personal lives collide inside the clinic's corridors. The engine of the show is the steady accumulation of medical emergencies, workplace rivalries, romantic entanglements and family crises, each playing out across daily episodes. Its shape is that of a continuing serial with no finale in sight, now spanning twenty-two seasons and well over five thousand episodes. The register is melodramatic and warm, with trauma and hope sitting side by side. Its Afrikaans-language approach to the hospital format will appeal to viewers who enjoy the long, character-driven arcs of Days of Our Lives and the clinical ensemble energy of ER, rooted firmly in local South African life.
