## Synopsis

A Step Into The Past (2001) is a Hong Kong television drama series created by Wai-kin Chong for TVB Jade. Louis Koo plays Xiang Shaolong, a 21st-century Hong Kong officer who is flung back into the Warring States period of ancient China, where he must survive shifting court alliances and military rivalries. Kwong Wa, Raymond Lam Fung and Sonija Kwok Sin-Nae appear among the principal cast, with Lam's character tied to the future First Emperor of Qin. Each of the forty episodes of this single-season, self-contained run blends wuxia swordplay and battlefield action with courtly scheming and romance, as the protagonist uses modern wit and fighting skill to earn his place among rulers and generals. The atmosphere is adventurous and brisk, grounded in the bustle of walled cities, palace chambers and road-bound campaigns. The series carries a sense of destiny as its hero is drawn into the events that lead toward a unified China. Fans of Outlander, Qin Empire and The Legend of Zu will find resonance in its blend of time travel, historical intrigue and martial spectacle, delivered in the classic Hong Kong television style of a long-form period epic.
