## Synopsis

The Regime (2024) is an American prestige political satire miniseries created by Will Tracy for HBO. Kate Winslet plays Chancellor Elena Vernham, the ruler of a modern European state whose grip on power begins to slip over the course of a single year. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Corporal Herbert Zubak, a loyal and anxious member of her inner circle, while Andrea Riseborough and Guillaume Gallienne round out the palace circle of aides and advisers. The engine of the series is the chancellor's relentless need to control every detail of her image and her court, and the petty schemes, staff rivalries and bureaucratic routines that threaten to undo her. Across six episodes of about fifty minutes each, the story is one continuous arc rather than a case of the week, a tightly serialized miniseries. Its tone is acidic, cynical and darkly funny, with a claustrophobic palace atmosphere and moments of sudden menace.
