## Synopsis

A Kidnapping Scandal: The Florence Cassez Affair (2022) is a Mexican true crime documentary series created for Netflix. Across five roughly fifty-minute episodes, it revisits the case of Florence Cassez and Israel Vallarta, alleged kidnappers whose arrest and trial became one of the most notable and scandalous cases in Mexico's history. Rather than reenacting events, the series builds its case through interviews and close analysis of public records, tracing the procedural irregularities that surrounded the investigation. Its engine is the question of what actually happened and who is responsible, as the story grows from a criminal inquiry into a diplomatic dispute between Mexico and France. Viewers meet the people at the center of the affair through archive footage and testimony, including appearances by public figures who shaped the national debate. The tone is sober, skeptical and deliberate, more interested in the gaps in the official account than in sensational revelation. Its limited run and investigative method make it a natural fit for viewers who appreciate the careful probing of wrongful conviction stories and political true crime. Fans of Making a Murderer, The Staircase and Narcos will find resonance in its blend of legal scrutiny, media controversy and national reckoning.
