## Synopsis

Apuesta por un amor (2004-2005) is a Mexican telenovela created by Bernardo Romero Pereiro and Gabriela Ortigoza for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Patricia Manterola plays Julia Montaño and Juan Soler plays Gabriel Durán, a couple whose romance must push through the schemes of antagonists played by Alejandra Ávalos, Roberto Ballesteros and Fabián Robles. Eric del Castillo and Jorge Vargas add weight to the family and household storylines, while Mónika Sánchez and Dacia González round out the rival orbit around the central pair. The series is a single-season run of 130 hour-long episodes, built on daily-style cliffhangers, romantic reversals, and family loyalties tested by money and pride. Its engine is the classic telenovela wager: two people who want each other must outlast the people who want them apart. The tone is melodramatic and sentimental, with heightened emotion, confrontations and reconciliations driving each episode. Set in a contemporary Mexican milieu, it sits within the long tradition of Latin American romantic serials. Fans of Marimar, Rosalinda and Betty la Fea will find resonance in its blend of heartbreak, rivalry and devoted romance.
